We quaff our thirst with many things.
Wine is among the oldest drinks known to man, safer than water to many
of the ancients. We can turn the simplest grain into an alcoholic beverage,
then mix it with other ingredients to make delicious drinks. We can
slake our thirst with water, whether fresh from a bubbling spring, purified
from a tap or a bottle of designer water. The drinks we make are sometimes
holiday traditions, putting us in a celebratory mood.
Wine may be the favored drink of
humankind. In whatever countries a grape vine can root, you will find
grapes turning to the sun, growing juicy, waiting to become wine. There
are endless varieties of wine, from sweet and syrupy to dry and crisp,
from deep hearty red wines to light white wines. We make the wine sparkle
and use special grapes, call this Champagne and use it to toast milestone
in our lives. We decant wine so it may breathe, purchasing the best
cut-glass decanters.
