When you first enter Der Kuchen Laden you will think you are in a small shop with a small selection of well-chosen cookware. But the first room opens on a second, then a third, then a fourth. Wandering as if in a labyrinth, you realize that this is one of the best stocked cook stores anywhere. Head into the room on the left and find pots and pans, turn right and find imported teas. Twist again to gasp - you have entered the room that has clay molds for springerle cookies - an entire room filled with molds that have an endless variety of designs. When you are able to tear yourself away from this room, you will move forward and discover the room for cookie cutters, more than you knew existed. Keep going and you will find a room for bundt pans of every size.
The owners of Der Kuchen Laden tell us that the store "is about having fun both shopping in the store then being in your own kitchen, the place that is in the heart, defined more by the joy of the spirit than by stoves, refrigerators, decorations or cookware." The owners' want you to stop for a moment "to smell the aroma of a great soup, to sip your tea slowly, to cut your herbs intentionally, live consciously and take a deep breath when things are wild and crazy. In this world when we all tend to go 90 mile an hour, mostly by reaction or auto pilot, it is good to shift gears and enjoy a bit of quality."
Der Kuchen Laden is one of the finest cookware stores we've seen, and it is heaven on earth if you like to bake, especially in the holiday season. If you are far from Texas, visit them online. Surf into Eden.
