When you enter Patsy Swendson's Cook's Cottage, you enter the world of romance.  Voted one of the 25 most romantic places in the US by Travel and Leisure Magazine,  and one of the Top 5 Most Romantic Inns in America by Country Home Magazine, Cook's Cottage is designed for relaxation and romance. Appetizers and chilled wine await your arrival so you can mellow into your time away from the world.  There's no TV to crackle in the your ear, no phone to jangle just when you feel relaxed.

There is only softness in Swendson's cottage.  There are large gestures that soften, such as the garden spa room with an extra large hot springs spa that has an oversized hammock swinging next to it.  You can soak in the warm water to release everyday tensions, and when relaxed, let the gentle swing of the hammock lull you to a regenerating nap. There are books everywhere - mysteries for a quick read, Haiku for a long thought, books about food, about Texas, an old Fredericksburg cookbook, or a book authored by Swendson herself, for this graceful but energetic woman has written forty-nine cookbooks.  If you want to sit back with a book, you can enjoy the Fredericksburg breeze on Swendson's porch, rocking in an old wicker rocker, or you can swing under one of the two large live oak trees, as old as the Texas Hills themselves.Romance lies in the tiny details as well.  The night light is a discreet small lamp with a dark fringed shade.  All the amenities of home are provided, from lotions and creams to bedside chocolates.  Some will surprise you, such as the spoons dipped in chocolate to swirl in an early morning drink or a late night cup of hot chocolate. Fredericksburg draws visitors from far and wide for many reasons.  Some come for a special celebration, some to follow the wine tasting trail, some just to see the bluebonnets blooming in spring fields.  But Patsy adds another reason - romance.  Take time to read her guest book and see the notes her guests have left.  You will read read several comments that a marriage flame is burning brighter than ever after a weekend at Cook's Cottage.

This is a spot to mellow, to rest, to sleep.  To sleep, perchance to dream...of romance.
