At last it is Super Bowl Sunday.  The football game hasn't started.  The crowd is in the kitchen, buzzing with anticipation, arguing the merits of the two opposing teams.  They jostle each other, they lift pot lids, asking when the food will be ready.   The cook tries to chase the crowd away, but this is a hungry group of people and food keeps them underfoot.

And then - the kick-off.

The football game of the season is underway.  The kitchen empties, the cook stands alone.

Prepare ahead for the Super Bowl - cooks like to watch the game, too. And try this super bowl special party

How to Give a Super bowl Party

Super Bowl Sunday is a day for elegance on the football field as oversized human beings run with animal grace and speed down the field.  It is a day for subtlety in the football maneuvers that emerge when a huddle is over.

The elegance and subtlety are not in the food. No one will notice the two drops of truffle oil in the salad dressing. The drama is on the football field, not in the pot.  Serve hearty food, serve food that can stay hot (or lukewarm) on a buffet table where each person can help his or her self.  They will straggle to get food between football plays, grab a dish when the game seems quiet only to be drawn back by the roar of the crowd emerging from the television set.

But trust it - this will be a hungry crowd, ready to chow down.  This is the day for hungry-man food. When the Super Bowl is on, appetites are voracious and roars are loud.
