Of course there will be apple pie for dessert on Thanksgiving, maybe a second pie for the Christmas dessert. Of course we want pumpkin pie recipes, and maybe a new pumpkin pie recipe in the holiday season. But do we want the classic - Mom's Apple pie -or do we want to change the pie recipe slightly with the addition of a little pepper to wake it up, a little mascarpone cream to make it creamy? What about some grated orange added to a classic pumpkin pie recipe for a slightly different holiday dessert? Or maybe a slight taste of ginger on the Thanksgiving table? There are wonderful holiday recipes to give variety to classic desserts.
But a holiday need not be traditional and you can venture far afield to find recipes from many places. Instead of a pie recipe, maybe a new open tart recipe is exciting? In the Middle East there is abundant use of fruits and nuts - staples of our holiday desserts, but with an exciting new twist If you have time, the day after Thanksgiving you are thinking of Christmas and start to make that wonderful plum pudding. Or if you have an Italian themed Christmas, you dream of ricotta pie for dessert. Even people who do not generally eat desserts will hunt for recipes and more recipes to make the table sparkle. Happy holiday cooking to all. T'is the season to be merry.
