Mulled Cranberry Wine

A variation for the holiday season, whether Thanksgiving or Christmas

  • 1 1/2 cups cranberry juice
  • 1 1/2 cups dry red wine
  • 3/4 teaspoons lemon peel
  • 3/4 teaspoons grated orange peel
  • 6 whole cardamom
  • 6 cloves
  • 2 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
  • 6 ounces vodka, optional
  • 1/4 cup sweetened dried cranberries
  • 2 tablespoons slivered almonds
 

Method

Combine all ingredients except vodka, sweetened dried cranberries and almonds in a large saucepan.

Heat to boiling point.  When boiling, immediately lower heat and simmer 15 minutes.

Let cool for a few minutes away from heat.  Strain into a bowl to remove spices.

Stir in vodka, if using. Place one tablespoon of sweetened dried cranberries and one and a half teaspoons of almonds in bottom of each punch glass or mug.

Pour mulled wine over mixture.

Serves: 4
