Hot Spiced Coffee

If coffee is one of the most attractive aromas, this enhances its appeal even more.  Delicious on a cold day.

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 8 cardamom pods, split
  • 8 black peppercorns
  • 3/4 cup half and half
  • 3 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
  • 2 cups strong freshly brewed coffee
  • Pinch nutmeg

METHOD

Put all spices and the cup of water together in a small saucepan.  Bring to a rolling boil, then immediately lower heat to a simmer.  Allow to simmer for five minutes.

When water is well infused, strain out spices and return to heat.  Put in sugar and stir until melted.  Stir in the the half and half.

Heat coffee if it is not already hot.  Stir into the spice mixture and heat over a medium flame until just under boiling.  Do not let boil.

Divide into cups.  Serve with pinch of nutmeg on top of each cup.

Serves: 4
