Keftedes II

Spices such as cinnamon with beef are a signature of Greek cooking. 

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground round steak
  • 2 eggs lightly beaten
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup fine, soft breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1 tablespoons chopped mint
  • 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoons allspice
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
 

Method

Combine all ingredients, except the oil, and mix thoroughly. Clean hands are the best mixers. Refrigerate for several hours to firm the meat.

Shape into small, bite-size meatballs and fry in hot oil until browned on all sides. Move them gently in the pan when turning them over.

Serve hot.

Yield: 32 meatballs
