"Beaners"
Burgers with Beans

This is akin to chili, but is a firm burger

  • Vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 lb lean ground beef
  • 2 cans (15 1/2 oz) BBq Backed Beans, or your favorite recipe
  • 1/2 cup finely crushed Ritz crackers (about 14 crackers)
  • 2 TBL barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 tsp fresh-ground black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 6 wheat Kaiser rolls, split
  • 3 TBL BBq sauce
  • Sliced tomato and sliced onion, and lettuce leaves, if desired
  • 2 TBL BBq sauce for roll tops

Method

Heat gas or charcoal grill to med. / high heat. In large stainless steel mixing bowl, mix beef, beans, cracker crumbs, 3 TBL BBQ sauce, pepper and egg.

Mix this thoroughly and shape into 6 patties of equal thickness.

Prepare a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill with a cover, or preheat a gas grill to medium-high.  When the grill is ready, brush the grill rack with vegetable oil. Place patties on grill 3 to 5 inches from coals; cook 4 to 8 minutes each side, turning once only, or to desired degree of doneness (145°F for medium-rare, 160°F for medium or 170°F for well done).

Place lettuce on bottom halves of split rolls, then the Beaners. Spread each Top with tomato and onion. Slather the roll tops with BBq sauce.  Dig In !

Serves 3 at my house !
