Cinnamon Pancake Syrup

What a treat to make your own delicious syrup for early morning pancakes.  This is an old recipe from Shari Dewey who is fascinated by recipes, and like many old recipes is far more interesting that opening a bottle of manufactured syrup.

  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons margarine
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Method

Over very low heat in a small saucepan, melt margarine.  Stir in white sugar and brown sugar. Gradually stir in water, stirring to combine. Cook until clear, 4 or 5 minutes.

Remove from heat, whisk in cinnamon, 1 tablespoon flour and salt.  When combined add the second tablespoon flour, then the third, only if necessary to reach the consistency you desire.
