Grilled Beef & Sausage Bacon Burgers

Roger loves to barbecue and tells us that is a very good and change from plain old burgers and you can make them as spicy as you want.  The bacon brings out the taste of the sausage mixed in with the beef.

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch of Cajun seasoning or ground red pepper
  • 6 to 8 strips of bacon (1 per burger)
  • 4 hot or mild peppers

METHOD

Make a 6 inch by 12 inch pan out of foil, folding up sides to form a firm rim. Place bacon in pan.  Mix beef, sausage, garlic powder and seasoning together and shape into patties.  This will make 6-8 depending on your size

Prepare charcoal or gas grill.  If using charcoal put coals off to one side when ready to cook.  Place burgers on grill away from heat, cooking 20-minutes both sides.

While burgers are cooking, place foil pan with bacon on grate above fire and cook bacon, watching to not burn. When bacon and burgers are done, place on plate to keep warm, reserving the foil "pan."

Split open peppers keeping the seed. Sprinkle with garlic salt to taste and place them split side down in bacon fat.  Cook about 5 minutes, turning once.  Watch carefully so they don't burn.  When done drain on paper towel. To assemble, put 1 strip bacon, pepper and other condiments of your choice on each burger.

Serves: 6
