Turnip or Rutabaga Glazed with Honey

Great for Thanksgiving or Christmas Holiday

  • 2 pounds rutabaga or turnips
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Peel rutabaga or turnips, and cut into 1/2 inch thick slices. Halve or quarter the slices. You want relatively small pieces so the coating of honey will be tasty.

In pot of boiling salted water, cook rutabaga for 15 minutes, or turnips for 8 minutes, or just until tender. Drain, then return to pan and stir in butter.  Cook over high heat, shaking pan often, for 1 minute or until coated.  It's good to shake, rather than stir as the pieces of vegetable are fragile.

Stir in honey, ginger, salt and pepper to taste. Cook, turning gently to evenly coat slices.  They are done once the glaze begins to form evenly.

Serves: 4
