Sweet and Sour Meatballs

You can use premade meatballs to save time - but freshly made will obviously taste better!

  • 3 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 2 envelopes dry onion soup mix
  • 1-1/2 cups dry bread crumbs, soaked in 1-1/2 cups water
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) sauerkraut, drained
  • 1 can (14-16 oz) whole cranberry sauce
  • 1 (12 oz) bottle chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup water

METHOD

For meatballs, combine ground beef, soup mixes, bread crumbs, and eggs. Mix well and form into 2 inch meat balls. Place in 13x9x2 baking pan.

Combine sauerkraut, cranberry sauce, chili sauce, brown sugar and water in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 min.

Pour sauerkraut sauce over meatballs and bake at 350 degrees for an hour to 1-1/2 hours or until cooked through. There may be some grease that can be poured off.

These can be made ahead of time and then reheated and served in a crockpot.

Serves: 10 - 12 as side on buffet
