Lower East Side Brownies

Lower East Side means Jewish cooking - these are kosher

  • 2/3   cup unsifted flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 packages baker's redi-blend chocolate
  • 1/2cup broken walnuts or pecans
  • 1/4  teaspoon salt
  • 2  eggs
  • 1/3  cup pareve margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 

Method

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Combine flour, salt, and baking powder in a medium bowl.  Set aside.

Beat eggs in a large bowl, and when well-beaten, gradually blend in sugar.  Beat in margarine, and Redi-Blend, then mix in the flour mixture. When well-blended, stir in nuts and vanilla.  

Pour into a greased 8 inch square pan and bake in preheated oven for about 25 minutes. Let cool in the  pan, then cut in squares. 

Yield: 20 brownies
