Yemenite Fish

Hawaij is a Yemenite spice blend - easy to make ad it keeps for months. click for our recipe

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 cups water
  • 16 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon hawaij
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 chopped leek, whites only
  • 3 pounds firm fish fillets cut to 3-inch pieces

 

 

 

METHOD

Mix oil, water, tomato sauce, paprika and hawaij in a large skillet and simmer on a low flame for 15 minutes. Stir in leek.

Put fish pieces carefully into pan, making sure to keep them intact. Simmer on a low flame for 15 minutes. Remove from flame and let cool. Remove fish pieces to a serving dish and pour sauce on top.

Serves: 6
