METHOD
Pre-heat oven to 350°F.
Thoroughly grease an
oblong pan.
Combine flour, baking
soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine
butter, sugar and egg. Mix thoroughly.
Add dry ingredients,
alternately add molasses and hot water mixture and pour in pan.
Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes,
or until cake springs back when lightly touched in preheated 350°F.
oven.
Serve with whipped cream
when cooled.
