Oat Slices for Tea

"In Australia, we use 'slice' to describe any food such as a cake or biscuit that is cut into squares in the tin or dish, and lifted out with a knife to serve." Margaret E. Walker. Try Margaret's savory zucchini & vegetable slice, as well.

  • 6 ounces margarine
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • 4 ounces sugar
  • 2 ounces porridge oats
  • 4 ounces of cornflakes

METHOD

Preheat oven to 335°F (175°C).

Melt the margarine and syrup in a large saucepan. Add the sugar, oats and cornflakes. Remove from the heat.

Grease a Swiss roll tin and put the mixture in, patting down with a wet hand.

Place in a preheated oven at 335° F or 175° C for approimately 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cut into finger-sized pieces while warm, but leave in the tin until quite cold.

Store in an airtight container.
