Chocolate-Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies

Wonderful during the Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays.

  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips (1 cup)

Method

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Mix 1 cup sugar, butter, 1 tablespoon grated orange zest and the egg in a large bowl. Stir in flour, cocoa, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Stir in pecans and chocolate chips.

Mix 1/3 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon grated orange zest.

Working rapidly so heat of palms doesn't soften the dough too much, roll pieces of dough into 1-1/2 inch balls. When shaped into balls, roll the balls in the sugar mixture. Place about 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten to about 1/2-inch thickness with bottom of glass.

Bake in preheated oven about 9 to 11 minutes or until set. Cool slightly.  Remove from cookie sheet and finish cooling on a wire rack.

Yield: About 2 1/2 dozen
