Sodium The taste of salt is one of our most basic tastes. It enhances flavor and is a sought-after flavor on its own .Sodium is an alkalizer or digestive chemical. It is essential to the body and our need for it increases with exercise or in hot weather due to losses through sweat. We do, however, consume about ten times the basic requirement, and it is important to read this label carefully. Salt has long been connected to high blood pressure. Excess salts are eliminated through the kidneys and may overwork the kidneys. There is also evidence that excesses may cause loss of bone calcium. If a product is high in sodium, compensate with other low-sodium foods. OR find a brand with a more restricted use of sodium. Many manufacturers have responded by producing low-sodium varieties of their products. |
