Venus, Bacchus, Mars and the Legend of Tortellini

In Emilia-Romagna, home of the first tortellini, it is said that Venus, Bacchus and Mars stopped at a local inn to spend a night. The group was noisy, and the innkeeper was nosey.

Snooping through the keyhole, he saw the naked Venus and was so overcome by her beauty that he shaped a pasta to resemble her perfect navel. While we generally dislike snoops, we are grateful to this innkeeper for his ungentlemanly behavior since it led to the creation of the versatile and delicious pasta known as tortellini.
