He ate his share of rations, food
that can hardly be called food. His did his duty, facing blood and battle.
Now is the time to think about that thing we call comfort food. What
is comfort food? Whatever your ethnic origin, comfort food is any dish
prepared by the people who love you. And how could anyone predict that
this would also be a celebration of his daughter's first birthday.
Returning from exotic food, the
family set out an All-American feast. Larry's dad made two large 'sloppy
jose' bakes, and two gallons of sauerkraut salad, which are the two
favorites of Larry's to come out of his kitchen. Other dishes were pick'n
peel shrimp with cocktail sauce, baked ziti, meatballs in red sauce,
pulled pork in a brown sauce. There were staples such as potato salad,
macaroni salad, a sauerkraut salad, and lots of garden salads. There
were hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.
Welcome back, Larry. We are all
happy that you are home again. And happy first birthday, Julianna.
